Teardrop: Insulation
So, although I have the wiring roughed in, the next step is to put backing plates in for every element so that it’s not screwed into thin aluminium or insulation.
The insulation I’m using is 3/4″ foam boards, cut to fit and glued in with PL300 Foam Adhesive. Sadly it takes 24 hours to cure, and I only have enough clamps for one or two boards at a time. So, I make sure that the insulation is in where the backing plates are going first so I can continue with the wiring while the insulation glue is curing.
The insulation itself has two sides… one with aluminium foil, and the other with a thin plastic film. The idea is that the aluminium goes closest to the surface where you want to retain the heat.
Since these ribs are 1-1/2″ deep, I’ll be using two layers of foam. The first will go with the aluminium facing the living compartment, and the second will go facing out.
