Teardrop: Roughing in the Cabinetry

With the walls ready, it was relatively easy to start roughing in the cabinetry. In fact, the hardest part was getting Sandi to decide how much space she needed for the clothing, food, water, cooler, and so on.

The one thing we did not anticipate, is electrical outlets in this area. We managed to shoe-horn it in and it looks like it was planned, but it would have been better to have actually planned it instead of trying to find a spot for it after the fact.

It’s interesting how many small details you need to think of when you start custom designing cabinets and counter tops.

How tall is Sandi? referring to the counter top height. How tall am I? referring to how much the hatch has to open to prevent me from hitting my head. How much clothes are you packing? How tall are your drink containers you’re planning on bringing? Where do you see yourself charging your phone/tablet/computer? Ohhhh… computer. I forgot about that!

See, there are a ton of little details that will make it spectacular or just so-so.

The exciting part about completing the cabinets, is that it really adds structural integrity to the Teardrop. You no longer worry about jacks or braces and it starts to look like a place you could actually live. Very exciting!
